School Meals

Our tasty school lunches are provided by Local Food Links (www.localfoodlinks.org.uk), a friendly not-for-profit school catering company, who have been serving nutritious meals to Dorset schools since 2006. Children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 eat for free! Some older pupils may also qualify, please visit https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals.

Meals must be ordered 7 days in advance.

If your child has allergies or special dietary requirements please contact barry.dovell@localfoodlinks.org.uk

Lunch Boxes

For those children who do not take up the school meal offer and for KS2 children a healthy lunchbox should be provided by parents/carers daily. We encourage you to pack a lunch that follows the Sugar Smart campaign.

Sugar Smart Campaign

There are surprisingly large amounts hidden in everyday foods and drinks. Whilst how much sugar we consume is ultimately down to individuals, the role of the environment we live in is hugely influential. SUGAR SMART is a campaign backed by Jamie Oliver and Sustain to help local areas across the UK to tackle excessive sugar consumption. To find out more about the Sugar Smart campaign please see the link to the website below.

Guidance for a Sugar Smart lunch box are detailed below:

Packed lunch contents:

  • Be based on starchy foods - this can include bread, rice, pasta, couscous, wraps, pitta, potatoes and chapatti, and where possible try to choose wholegrain varieties, e.g. wholemeal bread and leave skins on potatoes;
  • Include a portion of protein such as meat, fish, eggs, beans, lentils or pulses;
  • Include at least 1-2 portions of fruit and vegetables, this can include salad items;
  • Include a dairy food such as milk, cheese, yogurt or fromage frais;
  • Include a drink - healthy options include water, semi-skimmed or 1% milk.

Just making one change can make a difference e.g. change chocolate for fruit!

Fruit and Vegetable scheme

Key stage 1 pupils are entitled to free fruit and vegetable snacks which are offered to the children at morning break.  If you would like your child to continue to receive these snacks through key stage 2 then this can be purchased on a termly basis through the school office.

You may wish to provide your own healthy snack (without wrappers) and sent into school in a named snack pot.
